Although there are many warm yellow and scarlet options, there are fewer options for bold orange. Many artists choose to omit orange for their palette as bright oranges can be mixed from warm yellow and scarlet options.

Color List
Roughly yellowest to reddest:
- Benzimidazolone Orange (PO62) – most yellowish
- Cadmium Orange (PO20)
- Benzimidazolone Orange Deep (PO36)
- Perinone Orange (PO43)
- Italian Orange (PO5)
- Transparent Pyrrol Orange (PO71, PO108, or DPP)
- Pyrrol Orange (PO73) – most reddish
My Thoughts
Necessary slot? No, bright orange is pretty easy to mix. (I especially like the oranges mixes from Quin Coral (PR209).)
If I have only one orange on my palette, it is most likely to be an earth orange.
Favorite: Transparent Pyrrol Orange (PO71) is probably my favorite orange, but I consider it a nice-to-have.
Mix Your Own: Orange Yellow + Magenta, Rose, or Pink is the most successful formula in my opinion. You would think it would be Orange Yellow + Scarlet (Orange-Red), since the undertones match, but I just find that scarlet pigments tend to be muddier mixers in general and the oranges come out just as vibrant (if not more so) from a magenta.
