Beautiful Landscapes, Idly Painted

Colorful Shadows Gallery

We declared August to be Colorful Shadows month, and recently, I asked for any images folks had painted recently keeping colorful shadows in mind. Here’s what we came up with.

Svenja painted striking dappled shadows in mixed blues and browns.

And, she created a striking violet shadow on this dune.

Sandra created blue cast shadows on this still life latte.

And, in a plein air composition, she used blue form shadows on the vegetation and earthy red-browns for cast shadows on the dirt path.

On this lighthouse, Sandra varied from cooler to warmer purple shadows.

Here are mine! In July, I explored plein air shadows on a tree trunk.

And I did a more complex forest scene from home.

Shadow forest path attempt #2

The funny thing is I intended this to be more chromatic than it was, and I perceived more color as I was adding reddish shadows to the path and greenish shadows to the grass. It’s curious that me trying to put in color ended up looking gray!

Here’s one last one, finished after Shadows Month, and just under the wire to post here: a similar topic, but the shadows are bluer.

Thanks to everyone who participated in colorful shadows month – whether you shared, painted at home, or just thought about it!
