About Triadvent
Today I drew:
- Winsor & Newton – Gold Ochre (PY42)
- Da Vinci – Quinacridone Fuchsia (PR202)
- Daniel Smith – Cobalt Teal Blue (PG50)

All of these colors are variants on those I’ve triad-ed before:
- Gold Ochre is a warmer Yellow Ochre, as I painted on Day 7.
- Da Vinci’s Quin Fuchsia is the same hue and pigment as the DS Quin Magenta I painted on Day 6.
- Daniel Smith’s Cobalt Teal Blue is the same hue and pigment as the Schmincke Cobalt Turquoise I painted yesterday; it’s just a different brand and is more granulating.
Actually, this whole triad is very similar to yesterday’s: a golden yellow, a magenta variant, and PG50 turquoise. But the subtle variations make a big difference. Gold Ochre is earthier, Quin Fuchsia is darker, and Cobalt Teal Blue is granulating. All effects together coordinate to make this triad feel more “desert”-y to me, mid-chroma and granulating instead of pastel. Although it was still difficult to get a dark color because the blue is light and opaque, all the colors are overall darker which made it a bit easier.
I ended up really liking a lot of these color mixes: the cactus greens, the grayish-brownish-red of the background cliffs, the soft grays in the sky. I used a white gel pen for the needles.
