Triadvent Day 6: Imidazolone Lemon, PR202, Phthalo Green

About Triadvent

Today I drew:

My first time choosing a green from the blue bag!

Imidazolone Lemon is a very cool, bright yellow that I don’t normally have in my palette, but I keep it around for spring because it makes such bright greens with Phthalo Green, as shown here.

Daniel Smith uses the “Quinacridone Magenta” name, not for bright PR122, but for relatively subdued PR202. This keeps the palette from being frenetically bright.

It struck me as a springy, floral palette, though because the greens were brighter than the pinks I knew I wanted to showcase the greens. I found it difficult to mix neutrals/browns from this palette. But the Quin Magenta almost complements the green, so it’s useful for mixing dark, shadowy greens.

This was such a good pull for you, very bright colours. It’s interesting to see the pink/green neutralization in this context, this pairing especially seems to have such nice bluish secondaries. Maybe with an earth you have an effective field palette? I’m wondering now if I water down the pink/green, if it would make a good sky colour…. (maybe a bit cloudy)

I did my best with the sky in the upper background. The best it gets is gray.
